This project involved the renovation of an existing weight room, training, and nutrition facility serving Baylor sports programs, with football being the principal user. The existing facility needed updating from an organizational, technological, and aesthetic standpoint to better serve the needs of Baylor Athletics. One of the driving forces behind the project was the creation of a multidisciplinary Nutrition and Performance Center, combining education, cutting-edge performance technologies, training, and recovery activities. Additionally, we were tasked with creating a visually and experientially unique space that would double as a powerful recruiting tool for prospective student athletes.

One of the primary challenges was creating privacy for new training staff offices while maintaining visual connection with the common space. This was accomplished by designing “windows” that double as educational and informational surfaces, utilizing transparent organic LED televisions (one of the first uses of this technology in a commercial application). The boundary between the offices and common performance space was also conceived as an activity wall that provides storage and display space while also serving as the backdrop for a recovery lounge, helping to connect athletes with the performance staff.
